GREEK BANK ACCOUNT
TO BUY LAND OR PROPERTY IN GREECE, YOU MUST HAVE AN ACCOUNT WITH A GREEK BANK
Select a Bank
The largest of the Greek Banks include Alpha Bank, Emporiki Bank, Eurobank, National Bank of Greece and the Piraeus Bank, most of which have branches in the largest Cretan towns and cities.
Open a Greek Bank Account
To open an account in Crete, you must attend the Branch in person, and confirm you are opening the account as an individual, not as a business, and as a minimum take with you:
- your Passport,
- details of your Greek Tax Number (*AFM or ΑΦΜ),
- proof of your address (a Utility Bill will normally suffice),
- an initial minimum deposit (probably c.€ 250)
In addition, some Banks may require:
- Tax Return(s) from your country of residence,
- Evidence of your income
You may wish to make the ‘initial deposit’ a sum sufficient to fund the deposit on any planned acquisition. It is just possible that your first Inspection Visit may result in you finding a suitable acquisition, with the resultant requirement to make a 10% deposit.
